    OSM New Parent Portal

    Hi all

Just had this message when i log in

"The new Parent Portal is live and thousands of parents have started using it!
From a leader's perspective - nothing changes, except you'll notice My.SCOUT is now referred to as the "Parent Portal".
From a parent's perspective - they have to create an account as a one-off process before they can login. This is explained to them when they click a link.
We hope you and your parents like the changes.
If you aren't using the Parent Portal, you can find out about it in Help - Tutorial Videos, and purchase it in Settings - Upgrades.
    "

has anyone emailed parents to tekk them if so what did they day

Parents have been informed this was coming for several weeks (a message was presented bu OSM) however I did email them all also. I pretty much said what the OSM message stated but felt is was better coming from us. My parents appear to have coped well with the change.

    Dear Parents

You may have noticed messages on OSM that the Parent Portal is changing

I can now confirm that the new Parent Portal is live and My,Scout has been merged to be incorporated into the "Parent Portal".

Please take a moment to create an account which is a one-off process and see all the new changes. Please also take this opportunity to log in end ensure all the details are correct and accurate and sign the appropriate box to confirm

If you have any questions, please ask and I will do my nest to help

    Many thanks

I personally really don't like it, massively overcomplicated compared with MyScout.

Also. I'm 40. I don't want to watch a video in the help section.

Argh. I forgot how much this bugged me.

Help videos feel like they are for 12yr olds

And now I've watched it, no help at all. How do I access the parent pages now?

A few useful features that out weigh for me the unneccesary complexity/ change.

I generally attached a brochure/ handout/ poster for each event to the My Scout invite and attachments are now right by the sign up link so no more excuses for "missed" kit lists/ important information.

Plus myself and the secretary seem to spend half our lives explaining Payment Schedules to parents so the help videos means we can now just point them to that!

Beware if you use the notepad for leaders notes not intended for parents etc

I've got a separate log in for OSM for a fictional Scout so that I can see what it looks like from a parents Point of view
I use this separate log in on a different web browser so there should in theory be no conflict with cookies/saved log ins etc.

The new Parent portal for this fictional Scout ( and i assume everybody else) lists in the top left:
    My Child
    change section / term

clicking on that brings up a few options, one is "dashboard" and from there the notepad can be read and edited by one and all parents included,
I was using it as a notepad which contained a few reminders and so on.

Also under Help is the user forum, which uses peoples real name as the username, for one and all to see and i would guess that would extend to parents etc this could be an issue as it would appear that parents could post to it, and their username would be their real name
