Nicely done! Certainly counts as an Exploration "journey with a purpose"!

Reminds me of last years PL and APL camp. The first night/ day of this event are training and soft skills based from the leaders. Once they are set up briefed we ****** off and leave them to it for the rest of the weekend with a plan and budget etc. to slowly introduce them to passport camping.

I run some errands, pop up to the hall with some excess gear and head home. Sit down for dinner and the phone rings- calling is one of our more experienced and elder PL's... this can't be good I think as I answer the call.

"Dan. We've eaten all our dinner and all really really hungry. We've got some of our food budget left from the shopping- can we get some more Chicken"

"Sure. Sounds like a very good idea" I say.

What they failed to mention was that the Chicken they were planning was in the form of chicken nuggets, from McDonalds, delivered by Uber Eats.

As a responsible Scout Leader I should probably have been cross, but found it nothing more than entertaining!

I think that's the fun of camping without Leaders. I remember as a young Scout eating fish and chips around a fire when we should have been in bed. The fact that we felt that our Leader would not approve made it more fun!

I heard of a couple of Scouts who walked into town to the Chinese takeaway, ordered food and asked if they delivered. They did so they asked for a lift back to the campsite...

We had a couple of young & inexperienced Leaders disappear from Scout camp a couple of years ago. Their car had gone so we knew they were off sign. Turned out they had decided to go to McD without telling anyone they were going. The brown stuff hit the fan!

Is there more to this story? I can't imagine this being too big an issue.

The only issue I can see is that their inexperience meant they failed to take order from the rest of the camp!

It's sensible to tell the camp leader that your are nipping off. It's polite to ask others if they want food.

The original message made it sound more serious but I might have misread the tone

If you were them wouldnt you have done the same? isn't part of scouting learning how to be resourceful?

I think that had a lot to do with it! It was explained to them they should have asked before disappearing. You can't just have leaders going off site, where would it end?
