I may have mentioned above my habit of breaking my parents bean canes trying pioneering at home as a kid.

The best way is to start them young - maybe elastic band pioneering at beavers, moving onto the knots at cubs, so by scouts they can focus on designs and projects rather than spending lots of time learning the basic knots.

The problem comes when they reach the troop with no idea how to tie a shoelace
