    Sunrise Ceremony

At our district exec meeting last week our Dc asked for suggestions on where to hold our sunrise ceremony, a few ideas where suggested like, Railway Station, KC Stadium or Town Centre.

    Where are you holding yours?

Ours will be in the grounds of an old Priory which is now council offices. It's not as visible as some ceremonies will around the country but it's our best place for it I guess.

We're planning to hold ours at Lyme Cage (see link for 360 panorama) in Lyme Park. You can see the whole of Manchester from here and we can hike to it from our HQ in half an hour - and so can 1st Disley from t'other side of the hill.
In fact we keep meaning to challenge them to storm the hilltop and 'capture' the Cage - we've got our District Explorer camp this weekend at Sandiway in Cheshire so maybe we'll throw down the gauntlet to Disley Explorers then!!

We are holding ours stood at the front of the house in petworth park. Petworth park is a big estate on the outskirts ofour district. Its a grand place and its one of few places where we can have the entire district without disturbing people. But then who will you disturb at 4:00 in the morning.

My scout troop will be in jersey at the scout centre. But the explorers and the rest of the group will have to make do at petworth.

OK - How can come up with a more cool place then this

My Explorers like be first so we will be holding the Sunrise Ceremony 12 Hours before anyone else in the UK !

To do this we will be in Aukland, New Zealand

    Cool or What ?

Biggest concern - I have been challenged to set up a video link back to the UK so the rest of district can join us in the ceremony -Oh f****

That is pretty cool. We are going to be in jersey and they want a video link. I think they may have to settle for a phone call.

That involves a laptop with an internet conection on a campsite. Oh and dont forget a camera decent ewnough to be able to film an entire troop. ANd not any old internet conection itl have to be a half decent one. Plus you have to do exactly the same at the other end.

That said thats what we are planning to do. I do bielive that soem how it is possible through the wonders of bluetooth to conect your laptop to to the internet through your mobile phone. nOt entirley sure of the technology though. ANyone got any ideas?

    Thats the Plan

    Problems
    Auckland
Plan A) I can find a wireless hotspot in Auckland near to where we are
Plan B) GPRS connection over my mobile phone to the internet - very slow connection
Plan C) TV cameras (It's not going to happen but I can hope)

    U - Field outside Buckingham
Plan A - plugging in my wireless router at the upstairs window of the land owners house
Plan B/C - Either/or a very very long phone extension lead or a game with ethernet bridges/boosters
Plan D )GPRS connection over a mobile phone to the internet - very slow connection
    Plan E) TV camera's

    ......

Our local one is going to be at a National trust park, unless something changes before then, one of the best comments made about the sunrise event so far has to be " why are they doing it on a wednesday, cant they have changed it to a saturday?"
As for the 8am global thing, shouldnt it be at whatever time Baden powel blew his horn on the firts day of the Brownsea camp, with times in other countries adjusted to suit the Time difference between the UK ( or poole harbour local time) and other Countries world wide?

I believe the ideas is for every one to do this at the same time however there's nothing stopping you running a sunrise ceremony event from 4am to 9am say, so you include the sunrise and the 8am ceremony.
