I know I collect them, but most (if not all) special stamps they do are available as one. I have about 200!

To buy one Scout 50p in a folder (printed cardboard) is over six quid!!

I'll watch and wait for one in my change...

Can never see the point of collecting things. I have a camp blanket but that's like a photo album to me, it reminds me of the camps and events I've been on (there are no badges that are unconnected with personal memories, I don't just collect badges). Whats the point of owning a load of stamps (unless its a load of 1st class ones that you can use to post things with)?

I've got loads of coins, especially loads of 50ps. I'll try and stash as many of these as I can!

    Question

Does anybody know if there is definitely a set of stamps coming out? I'm writing an article for our village magazine and don't want to put something along the lines of "watch out for a set of commemorative stamps appearing later in the year" if there isn't a set coming out. The Royal Mail website only list special issues up until March.

Yes, there is definitely a set coming out!

The SA have been talking about it in Scouting magazine and on the 2007 website for a while, and in the Scouts Join in Centenary pack it suggests sending a postcard with a scout stamp on, or something along those lines.

As a kid I collected stamps - still have the collection. It taught me about geography, history, important dates, inventions, botany, famous people, and more, all more broadly than any school education ever could have done.

As I now approach the age where senile dementia could strike any time I shall be relying on that stamp collection to bring back all the memories I no longer have!

    Just to Clarify:
    2007: The stamps

    Five Centenary of Scouting stamps
Royal Mail has chosen the Centenary of Scouting as its subject for a set of five stamps to be launched in July 2007. Scouting beat competition from almost 2,000 other entries, and the stamps will ensure that the Centenary is very much in the public eye next year. The designs are a secret, but all will be revealed in time for World Scout Jamboree participants to send a letter home!

Y'know, thats just what I thought when the lady in our local Scout Shop did her sales pitch to me.

My immediate thought was a 50p coin and £5.50 for a piece of card to store it in.

Got the following from the Royal Mail...

I am pleased to confirm that Royal Mail will be issuing a set of stamps to
    commemorate
the centenary of The Scouts on Thursday 26 July 2007. Unfortunately the
    designs are
embargoed until 13 weeks before the issue date and as a result I will be
    unable to provide
you with any information yet. Please call the customer Orderline on 08457
    641 641 between
8.30am to 17.00 Monday to Friday, 13 weeks before the issue date and we
    will be delighted
to post out an order form.

I make 13 weeks before late April.

They were allegedly taking photos for the stamps at Gilwell last year (while we were camping) because they phoned me and asked if we would be willing to be photographed if required.

Unfortunately it seems that it wasn't required (probably due to the lack of girls in my pack at the time)
