    Scout 50p

The new commemorative 50p coin for 2007 marks the 100th anniversary of the Scout Movement. It depicts the traditional Scout fleur-de-lys and appropriately features the words ‘Be Prepared'.

That looks nice and it should help increase the public's awareness of the Centenary.

You will be able to buy a 2007 mint pack containing all the coins in a presentation frame. Watch out for adverts in TV listings magazines in the next week weeks I'd have thought.

I believe the mint run coins on an ad-hoc basis throughout the year, depending on orders from the Bank of England. So, hide all your old 50p coins to keep them out of circulation - this will force the mint to produce more!!

If you want to know how things like this work, the ideal person to talk to would be the ex Chief Commissioner of Wales, who previously worked for the Bank of England.

i was told that the 50p's would go into general circulation as and when needed so ..................the more 50p that goes out of circulation the more scout ones to be made .........
fund raiser idea ?............if every young person in every group saved 50p's the more scout ones would need to be made............if we all did this we could get loads into general use !!

Yeh but for it to work it really would have to be every scout troop in the country. There are a lot of 50ps out there. Its a good idea though. They may realise we are doing it and put a cap on the maount they produce with scouts on. But then why would they care.

I cant remember the numbers, but a huge no of 50ps will be going into circulation.

    You should see one normally

I also sent an e mail to the Royal Mail suggesting a first day cover in August.

They said it was being considered with literally thousands of other suggestions.

A First Day Cover is different to just stamps (which I think they're doing anyway). A First Day Cover is all the stamps on a special envelope and franked with the first day of issue - they're collectibles.
