Got this e mail from Chris Foster...

Thank you for your comments about "When We Were Scouts".

You must remember that this programme went out on prime time BBC2 TV
and was aimed at a light entertainment piece.

We were only able to have some input in the programme with the "here
and now" camp with Neil Morrissey, and throughout the weekend we shot
over 12 hours of footage that was edited into 15 minutes.

We have since had a huge amount of positive comments from both members
and non-members. It certainly put Scouting on the map. One example of
this was that Lord Roy Hattersley saw the programme, phoned us up the
next day and wanted to put Scouting as his subject for his weekly piece
in The Daily Mail. Click on to
    http://scouts.org.uk/aboutus/media/i...ail_090107.JPG for the
    end result.

Many other national pieces have followed, see
    http://www.scouts.org.uk/aboutus/media/MediaCentre.htm for the full
    list.

Whilst I can appreciate your points, you must put this programme in
context with the 12 plus other TV programmes on Scouting that are going
out this year. At the moment I am working on a serious BBC TV
documentary which is going out in April. In February, there will be an
entire Blue Peter programme devoted to Scouting.

I will eat a bit of humble pie, Chris sounds like he's busting his...you know whats. Look out around pancake day because that's when the Blue Peter is going out (there will be a crack at the pancake tossing record).

He also knew me through what I'm doing with the John lewis magazine. Good bloke-the futures bright, the futures Scouting!

    Fozzy is a great guy!

I'm sure I heard somewhere that the Blue Peter programme was going to be aired on 20th February. But I can't actually remember where I heard that, so I could be wrong! I'm sure that events such as the World Scout Jamboree will also end up on Blue Peter, later in the year.

I had an email too Austin, I did invite him down to our Group but he's too busy. Sounds like there is a lot on the way though. Maybe we were a bit quick to snap? However, what I said about the original programme still stands, just waiting to see now if the newer ones are any better!

I kept no copy of the said programme and don't feel any change towards it post e mail- I have, however, eaten some humble pie because I assumed that the SA had more say than they actually did in the programme so I'm glad that I sent the e mail but feel encouraged by what's coming. Now I can get real!!

Yep, saw that this morning on scouts.org.uk!

I haven't watched blue peter in years, but i'll be recording this one. I think the whole programme is dedicated to Scouts. (as well as a pancake tossing competition). Should be good!

Meridian Tonight had a great piece tonight from Butchers Coppice (NinthSkips Country) this evening showing that Scouting is still grrrreat. Good interviews with a Scout and Explorer and a Leader. (there was a Sea Scout there, one of yours Hilary?)

I know I saw it, really good, just a tad over the County line into Dorset country not Hampshire! He wasn't one of mine. We are all really sad in our house at the moment, we only want the news if there is something to do with Scouts (thats for me) Bournemouth Football Club (Tom and Dad), Isle of Wight & Glastonbury (Will), not interested in the rest of it!! Just wish our district would do something (no I am not going to put my head over the parapet, I have enough to do!)

Here in Cambridgeshire we've had a great week already for Scouting media.

Scouts from Cambridge cooked pancakes at a local radio station that morning, this afternoon the ACC Communications was on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and tonight Anglia News (so ITV covering East Anglia) had a great 6 minute bit about the centenary, showed interviews with adults and youngsters all "hosted" from the Candlelit Parade in Cambridge for Founders Day.

Chris does a great job in Cambridgeshire so we're waiting to see what he comes up with next!

Is Scouting still relevant? Listen to Peter Duncan explain why on BBC Radio 4

Resived this Today in scouting plus
As we continue to celebrate our Centenary, BBC Radio 4's 'You and Yours' will be debating Scouting's contribution to today's society. The programme, broadcast on Tuesday 13 March at 12 noon, will feature Chief Scout, Peter Duncan explaining why Scouting still matters.
Young people who also contribute to the debate, will talk about the activities they have tried and the teamwork and leadership skills they have acquired during their time in the Movement. You can air your own views on the BBC website. It's another great opportunity to talk about Scouting's positive role in providing adventure for everyone and at every level.

    Many thanks,
