Coverage on BBC South Today 23/3/07

Nice piece on SOuth Today lunch time, second story in behind a planning row in Hove. About Brownsea Island reopening tomorrow, but topped and tailed by Scouting! YP from Brownsea Fellowship talking to camera. Mentioned Sunrise celebrations and 28 million at 8am, but that 300 from 200 countries would be on Brownsea. Excellent piece, even came ahead of Rolling Stones playing on the Isle of Wight festival! can't be bad!

I don't think the island is open to the public all year round. it is National Trust, Dorset wildlife trust and Scouts. Check out the national trust site or Brownsea Island site.

    Hey,

The island reopened on the 24th March as it was closed to the general public during the winter.

At the moment, the new visitor centre is still being completed, however it is coming on nicely and will be finished in time for the 1st August!!!! :-D

If you get the opportunity during the summer, make sure you check out Brownsea - the National Trust are putting on a number of Scout-related activities and there are also some Scouting 2007 produced activities too.

And what would be more special than visiting on the 1st August?!!! - some day visitor passes are still available - just go to here for more info.

    Hope that helps.

    Hwyl, jon.

    P.S.
    YP from Brownsea Fellowship
    - I don't think there are any YP in the Brownsea Fellowship - lol. I'm just part of the Brownsea 2007 team :-)

Oh, and I'm not sure it will be worth a watch....

...lots of grown up men in shorts and old uniform.

It's not on brand and won't help Scouting in the UK at all!

May not help scouting, but its apart of our history, if you ask people what they remember scouts doing in the past, "oh, eating their lunch on a roller coaster at Blackpool" will come out a few times.

I appreciate what you're saying but surely thats the problem? We need to let people know what Scouts are doing now in 2007!

Too many people are still talking about the shorts and the hats where as people should be talking about how we're hoping to put Scouts on Everest (and other exciting and adventorous activities)

If that article is coming out the same size on my monitor as yours, then you won't be able to read it... but you should.

I got interviewed for that article, and there's a couple of paragraphs quoting me at the beginning. That bit, and the whole of the rest of the article was done at the centenary winter camp at Gilwell, and its really positive, showing truly how scouting is today.

This is an article that does as Grimesy says; lets people know what scouts are doing in 2007. And for once it actually prints that we are in our centenary year, and I managed to even get in the WSJ ;].

I have a bigger copy somewhere if anyone's interested?

More articles like this could really help with scouting in the media.

Hover over the picture and the right click and it should expand it.
