    Sunrise near Poltreath, Cornwall?

    Hey guys,

I just got back from a Network meeting, and I'm a little worse for wear, so I'll try my best to write clearly here.

We have a Beaver at our group who is going to be staying near Poltreath during the sunrise ceremony, and he is interested in attending a ceremony near Poltreath so he can join in the fun.

If you know of a group/district/county who would be happy to have a Yorkshire Beaver and his family attend their sunrise celebrations, I would appreciate it if you could get in touch with me.

    Thanks!

Cant help you myself. I suggest you look on the SID database on scoutbase: http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/direct/ukemail/view.php/13? . My knowledge of that area isn't that good, so the link goes to the county page for cornwall.

These requests for information are starting to spring up, so perhaps we should be encouraging people to register their events on a thread somewhere so that others can search for them? I know there will be a sunrise event in the New Forest at New Park Farm, check it out on

    Thanks guys.

I was thinking something very similar, Hilary. My line of thought was a seperate Web site, tied in to Escouts like RouteHiker has been, where leaders can post their information, as well as allow an option for leaders to say whether they are willing to take in other Scouts and their families to the event, with contact details etc.

<Wonders whether that should be Jamie's activity for this weekend>

Rather you than me Jamie! I wouldn't even know where to start! I am down for a weekend of paperwork, housework and ferrying teenagers around! Have fun!

    Hi

I'm in Cornwall and have never heard of a place called Poltreath, so am guessing you mean Portreath. Cornwalls county sunrise ceremony is going to be at the Eden Project near St Austell.

We are from the south coast and no where near Poltreath but I can see if your Beaver and parents can come along with our Beavers for the day. Send me a private message if this is any use.

    Ditto.

Digressing slightly, although I'm a Yorkshireman, I've been to Cornwall many times (a cool 7 hour drive) and always to the same place... Presingol Farm Camp Site, St Agnes, just up the road from Portreath. Its an excellent place and I highly recommend it.

A medium walk to the pub if its a network/fellowshop/leaders only event. excellent view of the stars and most importantly, just a couple of miles down the road is a really good chinese restaurant in Porthtowan.

Because of the experiences of that place way back when I was a Venture, I took the wife and kid down there for our annual family holiday last summer (albeit in a caravan this time).

Essentially, if you plan it right, you cant go wrong in that part of the world.

I've wondered if they look at such things. Would it be a useful portal? Or Pandora's box?!

We're going to be at the Haven site near Perranporth Sands on the 1st Aug, as we're all invovled in Scouting, Jennie is a ABL and James is a Beaver, we'd like to do something, even if it's just to stand on the beach and say our promises together.

Not sure whether to speak to Cornwall and ask if we can come along to the Eden Project or speak to Haven and ask them if wecan do it on the beach and to let everyone there that week know so they can join us. Might even be able to get Rory and Bradley to join in

or just do our own thing.
