Harpenden and Wheathampstead Ghana 2008 expedition

    Hey guys,

I'm feeling particularly proud at the moment as I have been selected for an Expedition to Ghana in 2008

Our district has a really strong connection with an area out there (Hohoe if you are interested!).
It all started off with this.

Along with this I will be becoming a very proud member of the UK-Africa Network!

The expedition will involve 12 members from my district (not quite sure who yet....bit muddled up!) and 12 from Cambridge. We are going out for 4 weeks in groups of 12 to build the local scouts a scout hut.

you may have noticed that I have been collecting all of the available fund raising stuff that has been offered on the forums. This is because we need to raise £2,500 EACH. that adds up to over £35,000 in our small district along (participants and leaders)!

Just wanted to share that with you all!

    Cheers

    Jamie

    hey - well done you

2 of our Young Leaders (Aimee and Sarah) will be joining you as part of the Cambridgeshire lot - don't believe all they say about me

We'll be helping them raise money - in fact our District have already started them off with £150 each which is great.

This years expedition is Malawi and whilst we have no-one going we're donating tools etc - to see what we've been up to for George just follow the link from the front page of our web site.

actually talking of George! he has never been to ghana before and was asking our contact (Jo Busby - you may have heard your YL talking about her!) what its like! that has to be an honor!

We may well meet at some stage then

Must be one of the few places in Africa he hasn't been then.... We're busy helping him fill the container for this summer's trip to Malawi - and I'm sure we'll probably help in some way with Ghana too.

Did George mention a Ghana 2008 website at the meeting at all?

not that i know of...this was while i was at work and i bumped into Jo and just got a quick update! Jo was up talking with your lot a few weeks ago and mentioned that she remembers vividly (from one meeting!) a boy named Tom who continually asked questions! but good questions not random ones! (apart from 'will we have elephants trampling through the campsite?'!)

have you heard rumours of a Ghana website then?

    Cheers!

We don't have a Tom amongst our Young Leaders - so perhaps from another Cambridgeshire lot?

I think George does plan to have a Ghana 2008 website at some stage.
