    Easter

Just a light hearted thread. I wondered what other groups were doing for Easter.

We are using sugar paste to make Easter Chicks this year as they all tend to do cards at school. Having said that, school haven't done any cards this year for a change!

I did think of doing an Easter egg hunt, but one of the other leaders came up with the sugar paste idea and it worked well on Thursday. Just got to do it again for the other group tomorrow. They use a ball of yellow sugar paste, then cut out shapes to add the beak, wings, tail etc. They look brilliant.

We finished on Monday... but had an Easter Egg hunt.

Last couple years involved hiding lots of foil covered eggs outside and then sending the beavers out to find them, then sharing...

This year we did a treasure hunt in teams... each team had a clue which sent them to a location at HQ, there they found another and so forth... we had 20 clues and each team was colourcoded... so we could hide the answers together, but send them to different places - with the prize of a bag of 24 eggs to be shared at the end.

They loved it... they also got to know HQ from where the chapel is, to the campfire circle, where the explorers go, to the name of the building - to the patrol room of our Scout who helps weekly and although they had an adult with each team to stop cheating they all finished at the same time - I held the last clue! (except one team missed about 5 clues!)

We will do it again, next year!

We finished this week by decorating Tesco's Easter Egg biscuits. The pack includes 6 biscuits and the bits to decorate them for about 1.70 a pack. For some reason I only had 11 turn up so we managed to do 2 each, 1 to eat on the night to decorate how they liked - the jagged edge of the egg looked very like monster teeth - and an Easter 1 to take home.

Previously we've done a 'chocolate night' quizzes & puzzle and the eat the chocolate with scarf and gloves on game.

We did decorating half eggs 1 year - the house stunk of chocolate the week before coz I ended up making 24 half eggs !
One year we did a fund raiser for Easter, gave the boys in all sections a tube of Smarties and when they brought it back full of 5ps they got 1 - 5 raffle tickets depending on how full it was and we drew a raffle in each section for a large egg, can't remember what it made now but it was good fun.

on Monday we had a creme egg hunt,( in teams, then shared out results...good discussion on fair play)...
followed by a frantic session in 3 bases; 1 making chocolate nests with mini eggs, 2 decorated card baskets and then 3 marzipan chicks. Then the chick went in the nest, the nest in the basket...filled our time slots no problems, satisfied the chocoholics and something pretty to take home for the folks... great success, job done.

    Holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did the Eggstravaganza activity out of the JiC pack with our Beavers, we blew some eggs before hand (was hard enough for me to do them nevermind the Beavers) and they had a great time decorating them.

Certainly made a nice change to our usual Easter activity of making chocolate rice krispie nests
