I'm going on my district one, somehow on security (haha..oh dear!) and with my cubs.
Does anyone know why that weekend was chosen? It's bang in the middle of exams for most explorers, and so some are deciding not to come (whereas, I seem to have different priorities..)

Our district centenary camp is too boring, over priced and run during the half term week, so half our Cubs were going to be away plus the leaders can'r get time off work. Because we wanted it to be for all our Cubs we are doing our own centenary cub pack in the summer for a week at Silver Cross in Swansea. It's all the Cubs are talking about.

Not a problem if you are organised

Last year I did my AS levels, most were after H/T but I went away on camp for the whole week. Took revision notes with me. My results did not suffer at all (A's for each AS ) just make sure that you have done plenty of revision before you go so that just reading the notes every day whilst at camp keeps it ticking over.

I'm going on the Centenary camp this year, only Fri-Mon, so not so bad, and I only have about 1/2 the amount of exams I had last year!

But yes I kind of agree, its not a great time to have a camp.

As a parent, I would not be happy if my son doing AS's was on camp the week before exams. He would have to work really hard to persuade me to sign the form - and I am easy going usually.

It does depend on your work ethic....! To look at it from a different perspective, my personal view at the time was that it gave me a break from the stresses around that time. I had already sat a number of exams but still had quite a few to go. I came back refreshed and ready to carry on.

Provided you start revision early (as in, started at Easter) and you keep at it, preferably having reviewed work throughout the year as well, it isn't a problem, but I can see that it rarely works like this.

In hindsight, what was worse this year was going for a week's skiing at Easter and coming back with a suspected hairline fracture in my writing arm (ie left) - that was when mum started to get worried, as if the x-ray had proved this be the case I wouldn't have been able to write for a number of weeks!

to answer the question originally posed by this thread, the Swindon North district (Wiltshire) is holding a Centenary Camp at a farm within our area so that everyone can get there easily. However, when I went to the meeting that the organisers were holding about it last week, the only thing that had been booked was the field.

We had originally been told that activities like climbing etc were to be available. Even the portaloos still haven't been booked. Needless to say we are going prepared with our own group programme.

Ill be going to our county camp. (Humberside) will be held at driffeild show ground.

I do agree the dates are a bit odd. I too have my AS exams and i know a number of friends will not be going because of exams. I'm actually quite lucky, i have several exams before i go away. and then only 3 more exams 1 and a half weeks after i get back of camp. As Andrew said im hoping this will provide me with a nice break from revising.

ekk all this has reminded me i have my first exam in 2 weeks :S
