    Very Quick Poll: Badge Design

In order to decide which badge we'll pick, I'm going to run a quick 24hour poll. As I really want to send this away quickly to get quotes

    Badge Design A
    Badge Design B

    Updated 13:38 12-06-2007
Badge A was 'designed' by Richard Fairbairn and Daniel Haigh

Badge B was designed Phil Banyard

    Thanks

I prefer the second one, but with the text on the bottom two sides the right way round!

The second one, but the dictionary definition of "empower" is "to authorise". Also to permit, enable. eScouts is not permitting, authorising or enabling the Web! It may be:

    Harnessing the Web?

    Applying the Web?

    Employing the Web?

Also, why "for Scouts in the UK"? Why not just "UK Scouts"

    A pedantic moment!

The Oxford concise I'm looking at says:

    1. Authorise , License

    2. give power to, make able

By the mutual support, and the free hosting, we therefore empower Scouts, definition 2.

By giving people the knowledge, and tools you empower people

Second point it has been changed on design 1 already

Having had a number of designs done for badges in the past. The 'Empowering' text in the second badge would probably be classed as too small or it would be almost unreadable. Plus the bootom two web adress tags need flipping 180 degress. So I voted for the first one as it will stand out and be clear.

Unless things change dramatically, it will probably be badge b. In that case I will make a few small changes as yes the 'empowing' bit is too small

Exactly my point Richard - the logo reads that you are empowering the Web, not the people, i.e. the Scouts!

It simply doesn't make sense as it stands - sorry to be pedantic, but you can't have a logo that's so well designed and reads like nonsense!

design b looks really good BUT....what about cost? will it cost more to have a fancy badge rather than the 'simple' one that richard has done (simple in shape)

what about, instead of the tagline, have something like free hosting for UK Scouts?

From my knowledge most company's base there prices on number of colours, size, and quantity ordered. Shape does not normally come into it. Plus is a diamond not a standard shape anyway? Turn it 45 degrees and its a square. What difference does it make to the weaver/printer as longs we know to turn it around once produced.

Badge A has 4 colours (because of the black URL)
    Badge B has 3 colours

Also for the finner detail/ smaller lettering. Woven badges are the better option and are usually cheaper then embroidered badges.

Glad we've got there Richard!!! Sorry to harp on about it, but I spent a few years in Corporate Identity management I can't let these things go past!

I will have a think about the tagline ...

how about "empowering UK Scouts" and ignoring the web bit - simply because we already have an "e" on the front of Escouts, and therefor by implication being related to the web...although if we are being pedantic, I think it should be E-Scouts.

    Or "web powered scouting"

    or "Web empowered scouting"

(are we really just for UK? Have seen aussies posting..)
