It was a Necker in 109 Loyola in Oswaldtelwistle wher I was a cub and scout.

In my current group in Crawley, it is scarf and I got a funny look when I called it a necker.

It was a scarf when I was a cub at 6th Crawley, Sussex 30 years ago but I'm now getting used to the "necker" now I'm an ACSL in Euxton Lancashire. I guess the opposite to the last post. Nothing like a change...

kind of proves a north south divide really.

but in the end I'll go for the one that gives us our history to be honest, so for me it will always be a scarf.

Been a necker for as long as I have known it in groups in Leicester, Chester and Manchester, then I moved to surrey where it's always a scarf! Very much a north south thing

I'm convinced that in my youth in Bath we always called it a necker(chief), and that is definitely not in the north.

I call (and always have) it a necker.
I told one of my scouts to knock his necker so that he wouldn't lose his woggle during a wide game, and this sparked a 5 minutes debate as to whether it was a necker or scarf. Eventually he gave up, as all three of us leaders said it was a necker.
I think there is also a question of generations... the older generations seem to stick by necker, whilst the younger ones stick to scarf.
