The Escouts Blog 5 from the World Jamboree

    Hi again folks

The technical problems have not been addressed, with the video blog, as I have been that busy with the Stewarding!!

Anyway, the opening ceremony was fantastic yesterday, there are 168 countries here. Who were all represented at the Opening Ceremony with there flags, all 168 Countries were read out and cheered. Of course there was a special place for Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland , which make up the United Kingdom.

We had a message read to us from the Queen by the Duke of Kent, and he and Prince William smiled alot!!!

Peter Duncan came into the arena on a AA truck with a broken down taxi on the back ! The taxi picked up the World Scout Flag at the last Jamboree. It seemed all to go to plan !!

We then had the Party at night. Now I'm no crowd counting expert but I'd say about 30,000 turned up, and had a great time, even though it started to rain about 10pm

So it was a very sucessful openning day, as far as I could see. Today, we've had 10,000 day visitors onsite, though I haven't seen them after relaxing in the Adult subcamp, and yes doing a fair bit of sleeping. I've been allocated the role of Team Leader of one of 25 teams, on a 5 shift rota. There are a lot of stewards onsite!!!

Anyway I have just came of a tiring shift pattern, that Daniel is now in the middle off. Daniel was on nightshift last night, thats 11pm to 8am, course the biggest problem is that it absolutely poured here. He is now back on doing 3pm - Midnight. The ground underfoot, especially in the Adult Subcamp is a bit wet, the the mud is drying out nicely. The Adult subcamp is the worst because of the 10,000 people who are walking over the same places. But the sun is shining and the wind is blowing so its drying nicely.

I finally met up with Graham just a hour ago, so I have finally met all the Escouts team, he clearly was enjoying himself though was complaining about the cheap knifes supplied for cooking with !!

As my feet will agree, the site is huge and distances between some points are quite long, you just have to plan and give yourself plenty of time.

    Speak soon

I agree with Peter! The forks are useless. One snapped in my salad the other day!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
