The 7th WSJ Blog from Richard's House

Okay I'm now back, in the house , and strugling to get used to real life again. Like the grumpy waitress, who served us in the Little Chef, when I stopped off, on my long drive back up North.

So to fill in the final gap, after the glorious sunrise day, a day I will never forget, even though I had just came off a nightshift. The satellite link up to brownsea, the doves and balloons, and the glorious pure blue sky, we couldn't have been more lucky with the weather.

The next day's were programme days, as Daniel says, the shifts we were working were tough. Being a team leader, I had to show an example, and I turned up to everything!!

    Photo from Meetup:
Back row: Graham MacAuley (Graham), Matt Collins (mattcollins171)
Front row: Calum Barrow (Calum), Peter Sheppard (PeterSheppard), Daniel Haigh (Daniel), Richard Fairbairn (Richard), Mike Leonard (MikeLeonard)

Not Pictured, arrived later: John Nelson (jabberdabber), Phil Barnyard (Phil4071)

I said hi to quite a few people around the site, and I understand because of meals, work etc, why many couldnt make it

    Closing Ceremony
Well it started wet, but somewhere 40,000 arrived at the arena. I say somewhere as I was still waiting on 2 subcamps to arrive in their positions! I'm sure the found a spot elsewhere.

After some interesting displays from a number of countries, Sweden were given the World Scout Flag so they can host the next World Jamboree in 2011.

By the way, they'll need a hand. They have a similar Scout popultation (40,000) and country population (5 Million) to Scotland !!!

The website is here http://www.worldscoutjamboree.se/en/ !!!

So the Young People had a whale of a time, and the adults enjoyed themselves as well, though many worked and worked !!!!

Whilst I could pick holes in elements of the organisation, I'm not going to, as I was there to cover up the cracks, that was my job, to help keep people safe. Overall, the UK done a fantastic job and the teams who worked so long on the project should be proud for what they achieved.

I'm sorry i couldn't make it to the meet-up. I was eating at a French unit that night and we didn't even start eating until 7.30 so it would've been rude for me to have left!

I too need to apologise for my lack of attendance - I set off back at 4:30pm on Friday after 7 days on site.

WSJ is life-changing - even for myself with 20 years under my belt (not much room under there though) I have to say that the event was amazing.

After charging around pre Sunrise Day event with a parachute (one is not built for speed!) and then standing with the press with my trusty camera the views into the crowds were cosmic (how old am I!!)

Visit http://www.photobox.co.uk/shared/gro..._album=6140698 to look over my snaps.

I am still suffering - have torn ligaments in ankle - and due to crutch use have tendonitus, compressed nerve and carpel tunnel in hand!! Am on strong painkillers/anti-inflametrys and if it doesnt heel in next week may require an operation on my hand, but other than that am fine!! Just trying to recover!

Other than that it was absolutely amazing!!

Poor you! Carpel tunnel syndrome is not fun, but the op should sort it once and for all. I am still trying to keep my legs up as I forgot I was allergic to grass and sat down on it, which brought my legs up like tree trunks! Hey ho! No housework..... Every cloud has a silver lining!

Richard, you shouldn't have stood next to Daniel - it makes you look larger then you actually are!

By the way one of our new cub leaders looks just like you, got the goatee and everything!
