    Escouts Service and Future Plans

We'll now the Jamboree is over, and things are starting to get back to normal, I thought it was time we update you on where Escouts currently are on a number of subjects.

    Helpdesk & Ordering
As many people will know, the response time hasn't been ideal over the Jamboree period, and before that with Centenary Camps.

So we have spent a fair bit of time, dealing with the backlog of hosting orders and have now addressed the 'CURRENT' support requests on the helpdesk.

I say current, as some of the requests are far too old, and we waste time trying to workout if they still need done. So 'OLD' requests over 2 months will be closed. If it still needs done, please re-open and it will be addressed. Please also check any spam traps as sometimes the emails from the helpdesk (and forum) go into them.

I am pleased to say Rich Willars has started work on a combined helpdesk and order system that should make everyone's life easier.

    The Server
We host 537 domains at the moment. What is clear is that demand on the Server exceeds capacity. Therefore, we are currently investigating the possibility of moving on to a better, quicker and more powerful server.

More details about this will be announced when it becomes available.

    The Escouts Fellowship
Work continues on this subject, though conversations I had at the jamboree, don't give me a huge amount of hope, on becoming a national fellowship anytime soon!!!

    Merchandise
The Escouts badges will be put into production as soon as possible, with further investigation of other items.

    Escouts Meetup
We'll see if this is achievable in 2007, if not it will be 2008 before we can organise anything.

Escouts Content Management System / Website Builder
Development has begun, but it's still quite a way off on Rich's long to do list !!!!

    Escouts Route Hiker
Based on the success since this project has gone live, Rich has decided to turn this commercial, going under the name 'RouteHiker'. This should be done within a few months, and Escouts users are expected special treatment! He also says he will be funding Escouts on a regular basis.

    The Forum
Well things seem to be going well on that front, we will upgrade in due course to the latest version of vBulletin, but it is security patched. We are no longer getting automated spam users, since i made a number of changes.

I am looking at how we can revise the layout of forum, when 2007 is over !!

    Thank You
I'd really just like to finish by thanking everyone involved in Escouts in whatever way. That website you run, that advice you give, they website awards you give out, that code you write and that server you maintain, all contribute to one thing. Better Scouting for more young people.

    Thanks guys.

I think this site is brilliant and I take my hat off to the computer literate people who have put it together and who manage to combine this with all their other commitments. You are truly special people. I have benefitted so much from the companionship on this site, the willingness of others to share their experiences so that I can learn.
Well done and thank you to Richard and all the team!

Thanks to all the Escouts team, as always.

Nope, this *will* be happening in 2007, because if nobody else has time to organise it, I'm determined to do so. I'm eager to throw some more pints down my throat and take you all on the high ropes course.

If escouts is becoming a national fellowship, what about us leaders who are too young for the old codgers brigade?

We are aiming to create a fellowship, this has been on the agenda for a number of years.

The aim of the fellowship (indeed any fellowship) is to support Scouting. This is not at the exclusion of young people, but for the benefit of young people.

If we manage to get a national fellowship, it will not exclude any Scout member using our services as currently, quite the reverse. It would stabilise Escouts.

In a fellowship situation, noone under 18 could join the fellowship. However, it wouldn't exclude any Scout Association member using Escouts services as before.

Escouts has a extremely good record on this front, that wouldn't change.

Sorry I just realised something, you are a ABSL, so as you are 18 or over, you qualify for 'the old codgers brigade'
