    [Answered] time capsule

    Hi Peter,

Could the Scout Association consider putting a centenary time capsule in the ground at Gilwell for the bi centenary celebrations?

With so many Centenary/ Jamboree memorabilia items, scarves, images, badges etc available now it surely wouldn't take a lot to construct.

Add in the current uniforms and maybe contributions from Scouters (via a competition?) etc and you've got a fantastic unveiling in 2107. It could be displayed in the museum when it changes from a cupboard to a proper one housing all the many archived treasures!!

    Austin,

Good idea. We did it on Blue Peter once but it was waterlogged when it was dug up in 2000. Better still we could send a time capsule into space to see if there are scouts on other planets. Email Colin Moyihan, the archivist.

Just a small note on the act of putting a capsule into space... perhaps Richard Branson might be the guy to contact..

Just got this email from the SA's archivist...

Thanks for this. Most interesting. I'll make some inquiries about the possibility of time capsules, here at Gilwell and also in space, and see what's possible. I'll let you know....

Well who knows where this may lead. If it happens at Gilwell hopefully it won't be made like the Blue Peter capsule from sticky back plastic and loo roll middles...That's why it leaked I reckon!
