    Chief Scouts Challenge

    Chief,

As a scout Leader I am wondering if you would re-issue the Chief Scouts Challenge or a variant of it?

The old requirements for it were: -

    The Chief Scouts Challenge

This is a special challenge from the chief scout to all scouts aged 14 - 15 and a half. As one of a team of four to five scouts you are challenged to plan and take part in a three day expedition in unfamiliar country to carry out a project.
Your team must be entirely self sufficient throughout the three days, carrying your own tents, food and being able to cope with your own first aid.

And it came with a cool badge and belt buckle!!!!!

Isn't that similar to the explorer belt and the expeditions for DofE and Exploers platinum award etc
Most scouts move on to Explorers at 14..

    nele,

nope!!!! explorer belt is about travelling around a foreign country for 10 days completing community / general projects.

the similarity is like the DofE / CS Gold award expeditions but these all require more on top of the expo

I think the issue is the age range now as I don't think Scouts are old enough to undertake the expedition part of the Chief Scout's Challenge and Explorers have the expeditions for their Chief Scout's awards (& DofE) to do so it would be a duplication in Explorer Scouts.

I think that some of my scouts could cope with it - particularly those who end up going up in the 2nd half of their 14th year in Scouts. May need to change the spec a bit, but an award like this would give a nice tool to use with some Scouts.

Pitch it right and it could also be used by Explorers as a link or introduction activity

Scouts also have the expedition challenge, which is 2 days 1 night

    Some of mine do that.

When I asked this I did not have in mind a direct copy of the old requirements but a challenge from the Chief to the Scouts

It could be anything he wants over and above what is in the badge or program books at present

i.e. camp in 10 different counties other than their own

Ahh now the return of a Chief Scout's Challenge in a different form is a good idea
