Explorers on-line forum - any advice?

    Hi,
one of our Explorers has offered to, and now set up an on-line forum for the unit. Before we "launch" it, does anyone have any guidelines or suggestions as to how we use it, any issues they have encountered with similar forums in their unit (I'm thinking more about content than technical issues here)

    My views are -
only active members of the unit + leaders should have access.
All members should have identifiable log-ins (nicknames are ok, but we all should know who they are)

anything else? We will ask the unit for their thoughts as well.

    cheers
    Rachel

If the forum content is behind a login which is only accessible to the members of the Unit and the Leaders then it should be OK. No system is 100% secure from hacking but I think it is unlikely that a small forum would become subject to such attacks.

I have a Group set up on Facebook for my Unit where I can post photos and there is a bulletin board system; but the Group is an invisible group and the content can only be viewed by members of the Group (Explorers and Leaders).

Sounds like an excellent idea, our unit site has a forum, and as long as the content is password protected I can't think of any problems.

Remember; Some people are like "Slinky's". Worthless, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

You could set the forum permission so that each member has to be 'activated' by a administrator before they are able to login.

That way you can control who has and more importantly who hasn't got access to it.
