    Ghana 08 Badges

    hey all,

As some of you may know, myself and about 30 other Explorer scouts and networkers are going out to Ghana in 2008 to build a scout hut. We are having badges and scarves made. I was wondering if you would be interested in buying a badge basically so that i can fleece you for money . The badge design should be below.

This is just to get a feel of your opinions! I have not ordered extra and there isn't even a quote for them yet...but as you can see, they are colourful and also they are designed to fit over the uniform pocket so will be quite big...
therefore we would estimate the cost for you to be around £3.50 ish!

Please DON'T PM me with orders! i am not taking them at the moment

    Hi Jamie,

Whereabouts in Ghana are you going to? I spent a year teaching in Ghana when I left University and have just returned from a month working with the Government's Education Department!

Its an amazing country - full of bustling culture and enthusiasm and colour but with a proud history and culture.

You will have an amazing time - you couldn't meet more friendly people anywhere!

    All the best

Hohoe! Thats really nice around there - if I remember rightly they have huge waterwalls there, although I think the ones in the Eastern Region are better (but then I'm biassed!)

You'll probably go a visit to the Akasomba Damn - its amazing to sea (ha ha!), if you get the chance try to get on one of the fishing boats - I did, and although we ran out of food by the second day (of a four day journey!) it was amazing fun.

    Have a great time!

Can I ask how and why they are an official uniform badge?

Just a thought but are you going to be able to put a pack or word doc together so I can fleece my Scouts for you and hopefully help to raise awareness on the area / project and poss raise funds for the cause.

Tell the kids by buying this badge you are helping explorers to.......type thing as I think my Scouts will like the badge.

pete, we have George Devine who is the chairman of the UK-Africa Network going with us. He has said that the way that a national fellowship works is that he can clear it with Gilwell and it becomes official uniform . This is the same for most areas/counties i believe! Insidently, the scarves are actually also uniform and they are not limited to a year, but actually can be worn until the DC of the district you are a member of complains so i think i may be wearing mine for a while yet!!! Unfortunately, it is only official uniform for the members of the expedition so you will all have to have them as nice pretty uniform badges

Ian, I will most certainly put something together! probably will put it together for when I get them ordered if that suites you!!

Cheers for the votes so far

Will it be available this year Mr S? Also, if it fits over the pocket, what happens to the world membership badge?

they may be available this year, however it does sometimes take longer to go through Gilwell!

I would have thought that it would only apply to members who were taking part in the project !!!!
