    Need a flag

    Hi,

We still parade flags from a closed group as we don't have any of our won. We have decided to finally invest in some new flags for the group.

Can anyone tell me the best place to get them? I have looked on the scout shop web site, but the flags come plain and I want the group name on each one, and the pack/colony name as there will be one for each.

    Thanks.

You can get them to add letters for you

"Please note the flags to be lettered require a special flag order form. Please contact [email protected] giving full address details to receive one. "

before you go any further, i would get in touch and see what the price is! may be that it is really reasonable so you can stop your search there!

One thing you can do (which you may have already considered), is to buy the flag only, and then use the poles etc from the flag you are currently parading from. You then have a link to the old/new. The new flag will still need re-dedicating though.

We did this for our scout section, it reduces the cost by quite a considerable amount.

Thanks. I plan to do that for 3 of the flags, but we will need 5. It is expensive sorting out so many at once, but will be worth it for the Remembrance Day Parade. I've sorted out who will do the dedicating already and we will have a trip to the Church as part of the Faith badge to do that.

Thanks everybody for all the help and info.
One other thing - the mount on top of the flag - our current one is a wolf cub flag - can I use the wolf? Or do I have to buy an arrowhead?

I'm not sure to be honest. I swear that I have seen flags with the wolf cub on, but POR says that they have to have the arrowhead. I will have to keep an eye out at St George's day.

Thanks for that. I've just checked the POR. Looks like we will be breaking it tomorrow as the one with the wolf is the only one we have.

Bet you have been using it years and no-one has commented though

Try asking local firms to cough up for a flag - it's the kind of thing they like if "sold" well to them as an idea. You could always then invite the owner / manager to the dedication. Once you get them along to meet the children at things like that it's amazing what else they might agree to pay for

Yes we have been using it for years. I wonder if it's worth anything?

We used a letter that was posted on here to send out to loads of local firms asking for sponsorship to get more tentage as our group has doubled in size. We got one letter back, and it was a NO! So I won't hold my breath on that one.

We do, however, have some money in the bank that can be used to pay for them.

We have been saving a lot over the last couple of years as we needed new windows, doors, fire exits, kitchen, bathrooms, disabled access etc etc etc.

However, we got a grant for all that, so we now have a bit of money to spend which is unexpected.

but a flag per colony/pack is rather excessive surely? Testarossa's choice but ouch... that's a few hundred quid extra to find

just working it out (as it hadn't occurred to me to get a flag per pack for us)

    flag £50
    pole: £55
    cord £12
    mount £45

letters: 1st anywhere scout group, anyday Cub Pack

    [email protected] £2.75/letter = 93.50

    £250/pack??!?

that is an awful lot... but it might be good for identity...

pays your money, takes your choice... our choice is one per section... not per pack
