    Netsky Virus

I have noticed i am getting quite a few emails infected with the netsky virus from some people on here. These are:

    bandmaster*@*lincolnband.net

    1stclaydonscouts*@*talk21.com

james.moore*@*runnymedescouts.org.uk (might not be the netsky virus, but had something dodgy about it)

*'s added to stop spam. These were the obvious scouting related ones, there were probabaly more.

If you have the netsky virus use the following tool to remove it:

    http://securityresponse1.symantec.co...oval.tool.html

And get protected in the future by getting an antivirus and keeping it upto date. There is a free one at: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Yeah its also worth reminding people that viruses sent, more often than not do NOT come from the people who it appears from. Address spoofing commonly takes place with worms where it takes the whole address, or part of an address and sends the worm as an attachment

    yeah richard,

i have had quite a few viruses through my domain e-mails.

Some of these have been from massive auction websites - no naming then but i think you can guess.

Also my aol account has been sending some back saying i sent them - and i didnt

also my hotmail account has sent some back to me but thie thing is i have not sent anything from there for a long time, so the netsky viruses do spoof e-mail addresses.

NOTE: BE AWARE OF THE NEW* WORM THATS CRASHING PCS ALL OVER THE WORLD - download updates from microsoft now!

    * = (well started hitting computers on friday)

Just waiting for a stable version to arrive (and really be stable ).

That's the downside to CPanel - it meddles with just about everything.

Interesting point, Pipex who I use for my BB connection have just said that they have for the first time put filters in line so to hopefully slow down the spread of the worm.

    Report:
In view of the continuing high levels of network traffic being caused by the Sasser worm virus we have taken the unusual step of applying filters to network traffic being sent and received by ADSL customers

    Symptoms:
Sasser affects most versions of Microsoft Windows and may cause PCs to slow down or crash when infected. The purpose of the network filters is to prevent the worm from spreading from computer to computer and, by cutting down on network traffic, to enable customers to download the required Microsoft security patches (using Windows Update) and removal tools from sites such as www.symantec.com
    Actions:
We are constantly reviewing levels of traffic generated by this virus and will extend the reach of the filters to other users should this be necessary. We expect to remove the filters in a few days time when activity caused by the virus has substantially diminished. In the meantime we apologise for having to take this unusual step. The traffic filters should not affect your normal use of the Internet.
