Any advise anybody has to give is most welcome... How do you currently run your Gift Aid?
I do the gift aid for my ESU...it takes about an hour each year, and you get 28p for each pound paid by your scouts as subs....adding that up for the average group makes a lot of diffference to our finances.

I know that the group we meet at has asked a parent to run the gift aid for them, and this is very sucessfull, the leaders provide the subs details, and the parent does the forms and getting the parents signed up.

Basically as people are saying, it's a lot of fre money which shouldn't be ignored.

PS: You can also back claim for the past few years, so the effort of starting gets you a big first paycheck!

Ours is easy - we have a membership secretary so when a space is offered one of the things they are asked to fill in is a gift aid form (assuming it's the first child from that family as you only need one per family).

On subs alone this brings us around £1300 extra per year. (we use this to cover things like capitation for all our leaders, SAs etc. We also buy them a uniform shirt and group t-shirt when they join, insurance for non-members etc)

Gift Aid - What is it?

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, the charity you are supporting will receive an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. This means that a £10 Gift Aid donation, is worth £12.80 to the charity - imagine what a difference that could make to the charity you support, and it doesn't cost you a thing.

Have a look at http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/...s/fs190006.pdf. It details it all.

Also note that you can backdate your claims so if your Group haven't ever done gift Aid you can get thousands of pounds when you start up the scheme!
To get more kids we need more adults - are we getting the message yet?

I have just set up Gift Aid for our group, it is very straightforward and the tax man even pays interest on back dated claims!!!!

Look at these web sites for more information http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift-aid.htm and http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gif...egistering.htm

The easiest way to get registered is to phone the tax office on 0845 302 0203 and ask them to send you the information. Takes about 2 minutes and all the forms arrive in the post a few days later.

yeah, we use it. So easy and the parents just keep getting a reminder until they fill it in, the AGM is a good place to corner them! We also make sure we highlight how much we have raised and point out, not only is it free money, but it helps subsidise the camps that their kids go one so they pay less!

Yes we have just claimed for the last 3 years and are expecting a large sum of money which will hopefully keep our group afloat! Everybody should claim gift aid against subscriptions or donations made to the group. It in simple terms is free cash!!
The hardest part is getting the gift aid agreements signed by parents or people who regularly give donations..............the easy bit is claiming the forms are simple and straight forward.
